SUN VALLEY, ID
Summer in Sun Valley, ID… could anything be more perfect? You can
enjoy it all in this magical valley… hiking, biking, lakes and some
great food. We used to spend our childhood summers here so we were
delighted to bring Sofia with us.
The fresh mountain air of Sun Valley is wonderful. We arrived two days
before the grand reopening of the Sun Valley Lodge. The Sun Vally
Lodge is a mecca of old hollywood and new hollywood. This destination
has been classed up and the reno was extensive. The lobby bar is still
a delightful spot to grab a chilled glass of white wine during a hot
Another find in the Sun Valley Resort
is the day camp they have available. You don’t need to be staying at the hotel to enjoy this
service. Café and I dropped Sofia off for two days of camp. They were
full days, 9am-4pm but they have various options available. The women
who run this program couldn’t have been sweeter. Sofia was extremely
happy everyday we picked her up. Activities change daily and include
golf, tennis, nature hikes and art and crafts.
While Sofia was in camp we enjoyed everything that the valley has to
offer. We rode bikes, hiked up Mt. Baldy, ate lots of yummy food and
just enjoyed some time together in such a beautiful place. Café and I
both have a serious need to be nature.
Below are some of the spots and things that we did on our Sun Valley
This is a Sun Valley institution. We are OBSESSED with the Bowl of
Soul. This drink is part Mexican hot chocolate, shots of expresso,
whipped cream and cinnamon with a dash of something special. They are
liquid crack, seriously. We had at least 1 a day. The breakfasts here
are seriously awesome here too. They have a tons of delightful
options. Their cinnamon toast is out of this world. We are huge huevos
rancheros fans so we ended up having this every morning. Sofia
sampled many of the muffins and baked goods. Everything at Java is
This spot is right on Main Street. It’s a lively and busy spot with
locals and tourists alike and for good reason. The food is great! As a
recovering control freak I love that you can create your own burrito
and this isn’t just your basic options. They have a huge menu of all
sorts of things you can add. This place is also great for kids with
some solid kids options.
This place is one of our favorites. It for sure was Sofia’s favorite
spot. She scarfed down her organic chicken and noodles. We shared a
tons of items and loved everything. We had a flat bread (which was to
dye for), brussels sprouts, a curry and pad thai. This place is great
and should be sampled if you find yourself in Sun Valley. It would be
hard to get a bad meal here.
Stanley Baking Company:
This place is 70+ mile drive from Sun Valley but well worth the trek.
First of all the highway takes you through incredible country. You
drive by Galena Lodge which is a fabulous
spot to hike. The scenery here is spectacular and well worth an
excursion. Galena is only 20+ miles from Sun Valley so the pit spot is
easily accomplished. If you continue down the highway you will end up
in the small town of Stanley ID. The bakery here is awesome.
Everything is fresh, local and organic. The cinnamon rolls are
perfection, the almond milk chai lattes are delightful and their
veggie hash was great! This place is a true gem and for sure off the
